Even the "big players" can't seem to stop the chatter of whats
where, the %
edge, and the like right out in public in hearing distance of
management. We
are a chain of a variety of VP players and as they say, the weakest
link will
be our downfall. This website, itself, must have some lurkers who
are
evaluating just how proficient and organized we are.
I think your statement kind of speaks for itself. A lot of my success
in being an AP has been in understanding what the casino will or will
not tolerate, and how to develop relationships with people who can
help you succeed (or not). Coming in with a sheet is distinguishable
from coming in with a BS one for 21. In the 21 example, the house
edge
is set at anywhere between .2 and .8, and the house can rate your
play
according to perceived skill level. Carrying a card will label you a
"BS" player, which isn't as good for comps as other ratings. In VP,
the house knows what the game will pay, and who has the edge or not
with perfect play. A lot of the machines are set in the expectation
that the player needs a spot because few can play "like the
computer".
Some of you people forget that the house is in business to make
money,
and is not a charity. Carrying in a sheet destroys that illusion.
When the house sees something like this, it acts quickly. I am
certain
that the proliferation of sheets had a lot to do with the game being
pulled-not all, but a lot. Consider if everyone came in to play with
a
VPSM printout or a Frugal strategy card? We'd be back to 8-5 Jacks in
no time. I mean, if VP were that easy, we'd have no full pay games.
The biggest edge any AP has is in the information chain. You can't
play something good if you don't know it exists. I have always put a
heavy premium on scouting my own stuff*. Since all the stuff about
South Coast is more or less public knowledge, I think the play was
ok,
but nothing really spectacular. Groups like VPFree hurt an AP's earn,
no doubt. Consider the Siena Reno discussion a couple of weeks back
("Is 3.5% on a 10-play machine a good play?"). The gaming public is
frequently the casino's best friend. A number of stories come
immediately to mind where the player actually pointed out mistakes to
the casino instead of doing the proper thing, which would be to shut
up and just play it. I see a little bit of this here, too, but in a
more malovent way**.
*which reminds me, how did I (and a fellow AC pro who is really good
at finding stuff) miss that IGT 3-2 BJ game at Terribles?
**AFAIK, there are no more $1 FPDW machines in Clark County. The last
one got pulled because the casino decided to remodel it's bar, and
the
machine was on a bartop in that particular bar. I got a e-mail
several
months ago about one being on the Strip, but I think the guy was
fishing; he wanted to trade. If it does exist, I'm happy for him...

It really did exist at Circus Circus! I was trying to trade with
you, but I didn't know if you were fishing too. I played this
machine for over a year. It was in a bank of 4 (8 total). It has
now been changed to NSUD. It was located by a small change booth
near the restrooms and a larger cashier cage. Hard to describe the
area. I thought about posting this, but thought that it would be
killed in a matter of weeks.
You know, Circus Circus has plenty of fine $1 VP. You can find 9/6
JOB, plenty of NSUB as well as Super Bonus Poker.
They did have 11/8 .25 shockwave VP, but they have been retired.
