$1,199 versus $1,200 on paytables

Apparently, this regulation does not exist in Nevada. It's been posted here
by Bob Dancer that wild card versions of Wheel Poker drop in ER when you play
the sixth coin. Also, 9/7 TDB Quick Quads (also six coins/line) has a lower
ER than "regular" (five coins/line) 9/7 TDB.

While I haven't read applicable state regs myself, there's been ample
evidence to suggest that some states (possibly IL, for example)
stipulate that game return can't be diminished as a consequence of
increasing wager.

This has been noted specifically in the design of MultiStrike, where
Free Ride frequencies target, in part, an increase in expected return
as you wager to additional play Levels.

Under this hypothesis, you've hit the nail on the head. Reducing the
5 coin ratio from the "standard" payout would be permissible so long
as the ratio is greater than that when 4 coins are wagered. However,
otherwise a decrease in the ratio (even slightly) wouldn't be permitted.

There is another explanation for the $1,199 versus $1,200
payment a friend suggested in light of the $1,199 payouts for other
games downtown. My original question was predicated on hitting a SF
at PE, and smiling at avoiding the delay and rigmarole of a W2g, even
if my tax liability would not be substantially affected.

Many of the newer machines are MG/MD and it is likely that the
whiz-bang programmers built in the flexibility to change individual
payouts for individual games and denominations. The game designers
have terrific capabilities at both graphic design and appealing to
players on both conscious and unconscious levels. Furthermore they
are math wiz's who can tell their casino customers the house edge
with perfect play and the expected edge with "average" play.

Slot managers have sophisticated accounting and statistical tools
to evaluate the return from individual machines as well as the
composition and mix of machines. The have also become expert
behaviorists (via some expensive management tomes) in designing slots
floors with secure little nooks in which the player will feel
comfortable and want to gamble.

What is missing is decision makers in the mix who are actually
players. An old game such as PE was probably formulated by actual
players and downtown slot managers may be "dinosaurs" who cater to
what players want rather that how they can be manipulated. Their old
school savy has lilely been forgotten.

Hitting the PE SF, gave me a warm feeling towards the PE designers
who understood, as opposed to the modern designers/managers who I
can thank for $1,200 payments in the past. Taking a behaviorist
analogy to rats pushing levers for food pellets rewards, perhaps we a
among a small group of rats who are not influenced by the music,
flashing lights, unconscious stimuli, but simply seek out the best
tasting pellets.

If I am correct, it may be mutually advantageous for Bob Dancer to
point out the advantage of the $1,199 versus $1,200 payout in his
seminars to modern casino management. The player is happier and the
casino saves money (not the dollar but the compliance cost).
